Nine Things You Can Start Praying, for Identity Church

Praying Graphic.jpg

There is no church planting done without prayer. Both the one-on-one and the corporate acts of prayer help lay the foundation for new churches in many ways. The New Testament shows Jesus' retreats of prayer and his pleading to his disciples to follow suit. The believers who gathered between Christ's ascension and the empowering of the Holy Spirit met daily for continuous prayer. As Paul went out to spread the seeds of the gospel in the lands around him, the churches took purposeful time to seek the Lord ... knowing that their aspirations were too big without God's help.

Planting a church is a spiritual work done by regular people yet empowered by the living God. As we look to gather people, raise support, share the gospel and make disciples ... we know that we cannot do the work in our own might. We have to have a lifestyle of prayer that keeps us rooted in God's truth and connected to his power. As we plant, we will pray. And as we grow, we pray that you'd join us in prayer.  We cannot do it on our own. We need God's help and the prayers of God's people.

Here Are Nine Things You Can Start Praying For Identity Church

1. Purity of Heart:

In Matthew 5:8, Jesus says “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Before Christ, all of our hearts were filthy and harden hearts. David’s prayer for a pure heart (Psalm 51) outlines his knowledge of being chosen by God yet still having a problem with sin. Our hearts constantly veer towards sin and as we plant, we want to consistently be focused on God’s cleansing and renewal through Christ.

Pray that our motives be clear. Our hearts be pure and our actions be ordained by God.

2. Clarity in Vision:

A clear vision is essential to doing anything God has called you to do. We have written the vision for Identity Church and try to consistently revisit it each day to assure that we are in line with it.

Pray that we stay mended to the vision that God has given and the it would lead us to the right work, people and service. Pray that the vision is made clear and our understanding of the vision stays clear.

3. An Ever Growing Love for Christ and His Church:

Ephesians 3:16-21.
16. I pray that he may grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with power in your inner being through his Spirit, 17. and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. I pray that you, being rooted and firmly established in love, 18. may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love, 19. and to know Christ’s love that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
20. Now to him who is able to do above and beyond all that we ask or think according to the power that works in us— 21. to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Pray that through the busyness of church planting, our hearts continually grow to love Christ and understand Christ’s love more and more. Pray that love leads us in making disciples, and that the same love would grow for the Church; those who are believers all around the world and even more our Identity Church covenant family.

4. Financial Partnerships for the Gospel:

We need prayer for our ability to grow financially through partnerships. We are about 40% funded and we hope to be fully funded by the time of our launch.

Pray that the right churches, people and organizations would partner with us to accomplish our goal so that we can live out our mission to the fullest, have the support we need to bring on team members and serve the people of the city well. Please see below for specific numbers:

5. Growth in our Team:

Our core team will be the nucleus for our church plant. We pray that one day those who help plant Identity Church will be her first leaders and maybe even leaders that are sent out for other works. As we are meeting weekly, we hope for growth in our individual walks with the Lord, our love for each other, our using of gifts and our love for serving those in need. We also are looking for numeric growth; both in the team and in leadership.

Pray that our Identity Church Core Team would grow deep, wide and in number. Pray that we gain leaders who can help bare the weight of planting and for other families that can be a blessing to our team as we plant.

6. A place to Meet:

As we are writing this, our team is meeting in the living room of one of our homes. In anticipation of growth, we are looking for a place to gather regularly for worship. We are praying for a space that would be large enough to hold the number of people we are looking to reach (150+) and has the accommodations to match that (seating capacity, parking, audiovisual equipment.

Pray that as we look for this place, we are met by honest people who will make room for what God may do with our church. Pray for fair rental prices, a great organization that we can build a partnership with and a place where many people will meet the Lord.

7. The People of Daytona:

There are 40,000 in Daytona Beach that do not know or have a relationship with Jesus Christ. We are praying for our city daily. Not just for the government or the infrastructure but for its people.

Pray that the people of Daytona would be given an opportunity to know and love Jesus Christ. Pray for those who may have lost hope or struggle to have faith in anything … that they may be served well and given assurance of God’s love.

8. Those Who Don't Know Jesus:

We are praying specifically for those who do not know Jesus.

Pray that the Lord grant opportunities for us to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with these people. Pray that the Lord draw them to himself and show them how great and might he is. Pray that they would not just come to know the Lord, but grow deeply in their relationship with them as they come.

9. The Strength of Our Leadership:

The leadership of any ministry is always susceptible for many temptations to sin and attacks from evil forces. We pray for the family of our pastor and the elders of Christ Community Church (our sending church) as they set out to a spiritual work with their team.

Pray for Byron, Kimyatta, Parker and Robyn; that their family be filled with God’s presence and love. Pray that they resist temptation, hate evil and have the physical, mental, psychological and spiritual strength to lead in seeing the vision of Identity Church come to pass. Pray also for the strength of the coming leadership, as we believe that Identity Church will host a plurality of elders that serve together, love one another and seek the Lord’s face continuously.
